In a one-hour time slot I was taught the way most designers sketch. I was explained the difference between a render and a sketch that shows your thinking. I was told that I should all ways have a pen and note pad handy the sketch constantly. I originally thought that if someone told me to sketch some ideas I would get back to them with some sketches a few days later. The training season showed me that sketches can be done within minutes. This was shown to me through an activity. Before the activity started we were given some tips and rules of sketching. One rule was to not use a rubber. This shocked me because I thought without a rubber how are we meant to make the sketches look good. You would be able to see our mistakes. Hans, the person running the training season says to "let your mistakes inform you next design." So after hearing this I decided to use a pen. We were told not to add any more detail than what was needed to be more efficient, use annotations, and always be sketching! In the activity we were given a picture of a simple object then we would have only a minute to draw what we were asked. We firstly drew the object and then the next 6 or so minutes consisted of sets of three ideas. For empale, three different sizes, three different ways to have a lid on the drink bottle, or three different lamp stands. This activity got me thinking quick and I notice my hand would just draw things without me having to think too much about it.
Below are pictures of my sketches:
